clubliteratur
Those who love literature also like club, as we learn from the fusions that have been taking place at clubliteratur since 2021. If you have patience, you will experience both: the beginning literature part paves the energetic way for the subsequent part of club culture. The boundaries between the two disciplines blur, at least thematically, the artists and curators of the format create a symbiotic evening. Artists who have a connection to the Balkan diaspora and reflect this with their art form are invited to this edition of clubliteratur.
Meral Kureyshi
Meral Kureyshi, born in Prizren in 1983, came to Switzerland with her family in 1992 and lives in Bern. She studied literature and German and works as a freelance author. Her first novel «Elefanten im Garten» was nominated for the Swiss Book Prize, won several awards and has been translated into many languages. Her second novel ‘Five Seasons’ was awarded the literary prize «The Second Book» by the Marianne and Curt Dienemann Foundation. In 2020, she was invited to the Days of German-Language Literature in Klagenfurt (Bachmann Prize). «Am Meer waren wir nie»: With a realistic view and poetic language, Meral Kureyshi illuminates the lives of women over several generations and unfolds a panopticon of the family in the present day.
Milena Patagônia
Born in Thun, Milena Patagônia from Bern oscillates between experiment and pop, performance and concert with her sound. In dialect and her own version of Diaspora-Yu-Lingo, she sings about a sensual form of being and produces tracks with a dramaturgically risky outcome. In her studio in the Bern agglomeration, she works on her own idea of sound, especially that of her own voice
Xhenisa
Xhenisa is a queer DJ from the Albanian diaspora based in Zurich. Known for their high-energy sets, they love to play deconstructed & genre-bending club music layered with percussion rhythms. Their presence in the club scene is about creating space for stories and building community through sound.
Yougo Girl / Yugo Boss
Yougo Girl (wife of Yugo Boss) is a Swiss-Albanian musician who has been producing music since 2007 and releasing it since 2019. The Balkan heritage shines through in most of the tracks, be it with lyrics in Albanian, the way they are sung or the melodies and instruments used. The live show is a journey to the most intense phases of life: Experiences of war, growing up as an autistic person, celebrating queer identity. Emotional, courageous, queer, authentic and very, very danceable. Yugo Boss (husband of Yougo Girl) later makes tech house queer again! We all have the right to Ibiza vibes without the macho guys around us and the cheesy sexist songs. Yugo Boss loves to enchant the audience and make them flirt with each other. At clubliteratur, we see that wife will be showing a live performance and husband will be performing a DJ set after Xhenisa.
